205John Viterito is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been a practicing mental health professional since 1987. Mr. Viterito earned his master’s and specialist degrees in counselor education from Long Island University. He is licensed in NJ and PA as a professional counselor, and holds a specialty permit in NJ to practice as a clinical mental health counselor. He is certified as both a National Certified Counselor and Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor by the National Board for Certified Counselors. The National Board for Certified Counselors has bestowed upon him “Special Recognition for Outstanding Merit in the Area of Continuing Education” on five separate occasions. Mr. Viterito has completed post-graduate training at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City, earning Associate Fellow and Certified Supervisor credentials. A senior faculty member of the Albert Ellis Institute, he was granted “Diplomate in Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavior Therapy” by the Institute in March 2010. He is presently completing supervisory requirements for the “Diplomate Clinician” credential in logotherapy and existential analysis granted by the Viktor Frankl Institute. He is a Life Member of both the Albert Ellis and Viktor Frankl institutes. His approach to stress management is to utilize cognitive restructuring (Ellis) along with paradoxical intention (Frankl) while adhering to the general principles and practice of cognitive behavior therapy. In addition to expertise in rational emotive, cognitive-behavior, and existential therapies, John has a subspecialty in the practice of smoking cessation and nicotine addiction counseling. He was trained in the Tobacco Dependence Program conducted by the School of Public Health of UMDNJ, in addition to being certified as a QuitSmart leader by Robert Shipley of Duke University. He is a proud Life Member of Chi sigma Iota, Lambda Iota Epsilon chapter.
