Board of Directors

Chair: Tracey B. Kirsch,

Members: Daniel L. Kirsch, Ph.D, Holger Wrede, Esq., Robert Bisaccia

Chaired by Tracey Kirsch, the role of this board is to govern the affairs of the organization. The function of the Board of Directors is to protect the public interest in assuring that the Institute serves effectively and by enabling the Institute to achieve its purpose.

Responsibilities include:

  • Determine and Uphold the Organization’s Mission and Purpose
  • Ensure Effective Organizational Planning
  • Ensure Adequate Resources
  • Manage Resources Effectively
  • Determine and Monitor the Organization’s Programs and Services
  • Enhance the Organization’s Public Image
  • Serve as a Court of Appeal
  • Assess Its Own Performance

The Board of Directors are appointed to lifetime terms of service but can retire from the board once a suitable replacement has been vetted and voted upon by the remaining board members. Replacements must be nominated by a board member and voted upon by the remaining members of the board. New members may only be instated with a majority vote in their favor.

Science and Education Board

Chair: Daniel L. Kirsch, PhD,

Members: Nicholas Gonzales, M.D., Charles Kaiser, Ph.D., Rick Landis, PhD
The role of this board is to expand the Institute’s position as leaders in science-based stress management.  The board will offer guidance to the Congress Continuing Education Committee and Educational Module Committee in their roles. The board will offer final approval of all educational modules and continuing education programming on basis of scientific merit and relevance to the AIS mission. Board members will also be asked to contribute in a pre-determined fashion to the quarterly AIS Journal of Stress.

Science and Education Board (S&E Board) members are invited to serve the board in increments of three-year terms.  The Board of Directors has the authority to remove an S&E Board member due to inactivity, conduct unbecoming the Institute, or at the S&E Board members request. The Board of Director’s removal vote must be unanimous. At the conclusion of each three-year term, the Board of Directors along with each S&E Board member, will evaluate the mutual desire for another term.

Combat Stress Board

Chair: COL Kathy Platoni, PsyD

Members: Admiral Stephen Barchet, MD, FACOG, CPE, FACPE,  Melanie Berry, MS,BCB, BCBS,FAIS, COL Richard P. Petri, Jr., MD, FAIS, Christiane C. O’Hara, Ph.D., FAIS, Daniel L. Kirsch, Ph.D., DAAPM, FAIS

Chaired by COL Platoni, the role of this board is to develop initiatives and communications to serve the stress management needs of service members and veterans.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing in a pre-determined fashion to a weekly Combat Stress Blog
  • Contributing in a pre-determined fashion to a monthly Combat Stress Newsletter
  • Developing educational modules  and other programs for service members, veterans and their families
  • Contribute in a pre-determined fashion to the quarterly AIS Journal of Stress

Combat Stress Board members are invited to serve the board in increments of three-year terms.  The Board of Directors have the authority to remove a Combat Stress Board member due to inactivity, conduct unbecoming the Institute or at the Combat Stress Board members request. The Board of Director’s removal vote must be unanimous. At the conclusion of each three year term, the Board of Directors along with each Combat Stress Board member, will evaluate the mutual desire for another term.

Daily Life Stress Board

Members: Heidi Hanna, Ph.D., David Sollars M.Ac, L.ac, William C. Heckman, M.S, DAIS  Sandra Thebaud, Ph.D.,

The role of this board is to develop initiatives and communications to serve the stress management needs of the community at large.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing in a pre-determined fashion to a weekly Daily Life Stress Blog
  • Contributing in a pre-determined fashion to a monthly Contentment Newsletter
  • Developing programming and events to educate and empower the community at large on stress management topics.
  • Contribute in a pre-determined fashion to the quarterly AIS Journal of Stress

Daily Life Stress (DLS) Board members are invited to serve the board in increments of three year terms.  The Board of Directors have the authority to remove a DLS Board member due to inactivity, conduct unbecoming the Institute or at the DLS Board members request. The Board of Director’s removal vote must be unanimous. At the conclusion of each three year term, the Board of Directors along with each DLS Board member, will evaluate the mutual desire for another term.

Workplace Stress Board

Chair: Cynthia Ackrill, MD 

Members: Sandra Thebaud, Ph.D. Heidi Hanna, Ph.D., David Sollars, M.Ac, L.ac

Chaired by Dr. Ackrill, the role of this board is to develop initiatives, communications and programs to serve the stress management needs found in workplace settings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing in a pre-determined fashion to a monthly Contentment Newsletter
  • Developing programing and events to educate and empower the corporate community on stress management topics.
  • Contribute in a pre-determined fashion to the quarterly AIS Journal of Stress

Workplace Stress (WS) Board members are invited to serve the board in increments of three year terms.  The Board of Directors have the authority to remove a WS Board member due to inactivity, conduct unbecoming the Institute or at the WS Board members request. The Board of Directors removal vote must be unanimous. At the conclusion of each three year term, the Board of Directors along with each WS Board member, will evaluate the mutual desire for another term.
