AIS Executive Director Dr. Heidi Hanna was interviewed on Good Morning San Diego on Tips on How to Manage Stress During the Holiday Season.

There is about a 40% increase in stress during the holidays. What can you do to increase your awareness of this stress and make a plan to decrease it? Follow these steps!

3 QUICK TIPS

  1. Slow Down. Put buffer time in calendar. Maybe even an entire buffer day. In between festivities and going out with friends, and having family over, we tend to just go from one thing to the next. Building in time and holding it as valuable as any other appointment is critical. Make it a priority.
  2. Set Yourself Up for Success. Really think about what you want the holidays to feel like, what’s most important to you. If it’s spending time with family, you have to show up, you have to be present. Put the technology down when you’re actually engaging with other people.
  3. Soak it in. Build in time to appreciate the positive things that are happening. Sometimes we get going on to the next thing and the next thing and we don’t actually embrace what we feel grateful for.
